The statue of Dipankara dates back to the 7th century and is behind a courtyard of small chaityas at Swayambhu. Dipankara is one of the past Buddhas who attained enlightenment before Gautama Buddha and is also known as the ‘Buddha of Light’. It is about 10 feet tall. There is another small statue similar to it on the wall of Shantipur temple.
